One of the fundamental discoveries of Rudolf Steiner's is the correspondence between plant organs (root, leaf, etc) and human organs.
He shows how the plant is basically an inverted human being. Its roots correspond to the head; the leaves to the respiratory organs and the reproductive part situated at the top of the plants correspond to the sexual organs located in the lower parts of the human anatomy. One can intuit from these insights which herbal parts would be helpful to which organ system. Roots like ginseng, rhodiola, etc, have been well recognized for decades to be powerful healers of the nervous system and the mental processes associated with it.
The seven trees used in this formula have a hidden importance first recognized by Rudolf Steiner. Each of these trees support and enhance the life forces (etheric forces) of a particular segment of the overall life span. Taken together they solidify the entire life body of the human organization. The roots, as mentioned above, help the brain, the nervous system and the senses as such.
Why burn the roots and obtain the ashes? With the fire process one introduces a warmth and light into the roots that had not been there before.
